To my mind, there are two things you have to do to ensure that your data stays safe and protected. First up, you must ensure that no one apart from you has access to it. To do so you need to encrypt and password protect your data. Since you are the only one who knows the password, you will be the only one who can access that data. To encrypt and password protect your private, sensitive information you can use the Abacre-developed application Abacre File Encryptor.

The second thing you need to do to ensure your data is safe and protected it to back it up. Should something go wrong and your data is lost or compromised in some way, you have the backup. You will not lose your data should your operating system fail for example.
